In this episode, we’re going to take a big step toward thinking like an AI risk professional by connecting AI outcomes to the kinds of harm businesses actually care about. Beginners sometimes get stuck talking about AI in technical terms, like accuracy, models, or data quality, and those ideas matter, but they are not the language leaders use when deciding what to fund, what to approve, or what to stop. Leaders and organizations think in terms of impacts: how much money could we lose, could someone get hurt, will customers stop trusting us, and are we going to face legal or regulatory trouble. When you can translate AI behavior into those harms, you become useful in governance conversations because you help people make decisions that are defensible and realistic. You also become better at exam questions, because many questions are testing whether you can connect a risk to a consequence that matters. We will organize this around four major harm categories: money, safety, trust, and law. By the end, you should be able to listen to a simple AI scenario and explain, in plain language, what business harm could result and why that harm is not theoretical.

If employees are misusing AI tools, you might translate that to a leader as a data protection and reputation risk, not as a technical curiosity. This kind of translation helps leaders understand why controls and governance are necessary, because you are connecting technical behavior to real-world consequences. The exam often tests this indirectly by asking what matters most in a scenario or what should be escalated. When you can see harm clearly, you can answer those questions with confidence.
